Collagen®

Collagen® was approved by the FDA in 1981, and has been used as filler for smoothing facial lines, wrinkles, scars, and enhancing lip definition. The results of using collagen are immediate. Collagen® is a highly purified bovine collagen, in other words a non-human collagen. The benefits of collagen are immediate. It is easy and effective. There is no need for anesthesia, and it is not a surgery. After just one session patients see noticeable results. Patients are skin tested to determine if there is any sensitivity to the implant. The skin test takes just a few minutes and about ninety-seven percent of people tested are able to be treated. Collagen® is injected in a very small needle into the appropriate places. There is a very small amount of a local anesthetic mixed with the collagen to make the procedure more comfortable. Patients can return to normal activity right after the procedure is done. Collagen is not by all means permanent. Collagen® is gradually reabsorbed by the body and the amount of time it takes to absorb depends on the patient. Collagen® lasts about 3-6 months.
